There's no easy way to say this, so I'll just say it. Both Hayden and Cameron have muscular dystrophy. We got the news on Thursday. We had known they were at risk for a month or so, and were working on getting the appropriate tests done. While we haven't had the actual genetic tests, or muscle biopsies done, the incredibly high CK levels leave little doubt. Normally CK levels are under 200. Cameron's level was 7500, and Hayden's was 10,000.
For those who don't know, the most common form is Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, which also happens to be the most severe. This is likely the form that is affecting our boys. In hindsight it explains things like Hayden being slow at most of the physical milestones.
This is a huge shock to us, but we are dealing with it. We love both boys very much and will work though this. Unfortunately there isn't much in the way of treatments for muscular dystrophy, though they are actively working to find a treatment, or even a cure.
We're still kind of in shock and are discussing how best to deal with this. Moving back to Weyburn is something we'd like to do, but we'll have to see what sort of jobs are available.
